Not a fact anymore
Secure human occupation of North America began only after the Last Glacial Maximum.
What we know now
Human footprints at White Sands, New Mexico, date to roughly 23,000–21,000 years ago, placing people in North America during the Last Glacial Maximum.
Why it changed
The footprint layers were first dated with seeds above and below the tracks. Independent dating with terrestrial pollen and optically stimulated luminescence later reproduced the same age range, addressing concerns about the original aquatic-plant dates.
